NJ Academy Summer 2019 Program is a life-changing 7 weeks focused on training students for success,
whether for high school/college admissions exams or the upcoming school year. With test prep,
academic enrichment courses and expert guidance, our students always stay ahead of the curve.

Physical Science

The Physical Science course is designed to continue the investigation of the physical sciences begun in earlier grades. This course will build a knowledge base to provide a strong foundation for the continued study of science. The course will present the fundamentals of both chemistry and physics, including motion, energy, the structure of atoms, the nature of matter and its changes, how chemicals mix and react, and the forces that hold the universe together.

Physics

The Physics/Physics Honors/AP Physics 1 and 2 courses will follow (6) major subject areas, including: Newton’s Laws of Motion, Vectors and Forces, Impulse and Momentum, Work and Energy, Wave Motion, and Electricity and Magnetism. The AP Physics 1 course is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course with no prerequisites; while the AP Physics 2 course is intended as a second-year course to follow regular physics or AP Physics 1. Both courses will fully prepare students for the respective AP Exams.

Chemistry

The Chemistry/Chemistry Honors/AP Chemistry courses will focus on major blocks of instruction, including the structure of the atom, properties of matter, chemical bonding and reactions, stoichiometry, ideal gases, mixtures and solutions, acids and bases, chemical equilibrium, and basic organic chemistry. The AP Chemistry course will be the equivalent of an introductory college-level chemistry course, and will fully prepare students for the AP Exam.

Math Review

THe Math Review for Chemistry and Physics course will encompass all of the mathematical skills and knowledge required for high school chemistry and physics course. The primary focus of this course will be problem-solving in specific applications in both chemistry and physics. For example, chemistry courses demand proficiency in solving algebraic equations for variables, calculating with significant figures, writing in scientific notation, and understanding exponents and logarithms. Physics courses require further knowledge of deriving formulas from graphs, dimensional analysis, vector algebra in both 2-D and 3-D applications, and basic trigonometry.
